Well, Thanksgiving is now gone, leaving just as quickly as it came. It was a very good Thanksgiving. The family came, as usual, and we played games and ate, as usual. One of my family members pointed out that we seem to have more and more food every year, so we need bigger plates.
I was thinking the other day about how crazy families get whenThanksgiving draws near. I’m not sure about other families, but every person in my family pretty much has an “assigned dish” that they make every year. It’s really funny, because if someone brings something different, either it gets ignored and not eaten, or someone else asks, “Was I supposed to make that?” Well, my Mom’s assigned dish is the turkey, ham, carrot cake, broccoli salad, deviled eggs, and some kind of beans. Of course, I always begin to wonder why we need turkey AND ham on Thanksgiving. Why can’t we just pick one? (Turkey, of course.)
Anyway, my aunt is typically at our house the night before T-Giving to help with the turkey. But, she was unable to be here until T-Giving day this year. So, guess who was put on turkey duty…yes, Madi was. It was quite interesting. It was almost like the Jennie-O commercial where the lady has this ginourmous turkey, picks it up, drops it, tries to pick it up and put it back into the sink, but throws it too far. The turkey then flies out the window and whacks her husband in the head. Yeah, well our turkey was 20 pounds, and the night we got it, we began referring to it as “him.” “Please put HIM in a bag.” “I need to start getting HIM ready to bake.” Yeah, it was pretty funny!
During all of this turkey business, I look on the kitchen floor to see my dad disassembling one of our chairs. Naturally, I calmlyasked what he was doing. He simply replied, “I’m reupholstering the chairs, come help me.” with that look in his eye that said, “I’ve never done this before, but your mom thinks I have.” So, I cut fabric and helped Dad finish the chairs, which I must say look very nice, haha.
Well, I hope everyone had as great a Thanksgiving as I had. And, I hope everyone remembered the reason for this great holiday, and gave thanks to God for all of our many blessings.
